Shade', a 2nd grader, wears a hood on her head every day at Serene Elementary School--inside and outside the building and in class. No matter how many times teachers tell her to remove the hood, she refuses and gets into lots of trouble. No one knows the real reason Shade' won't remove the hood until Shade' opens up, revealing a story of insecurity, resilience, and the power of kindness.
